Searchable 1928 Cummins Atlas Rural Directory Finding Aid. Searchable by town/lot and surname.
This database is a finding aid consisting of those listed in the 1928 Cummins Atlas as owners of properties. In most cases, this will also include the wives, and children, and the owner's occupation, as well as postal address. This Directory may be compared to Hutchinson's, McAlpines, Lovell's and Teare's Directories, and contains very useful information for the year 1928. The information will be presented in a database searchable by surname, town name, or by lot number. This is meant to be a companion piece only to the Atlas. Please refer to the Atlas itself for maps and complete listings.
Enter a Surname or other Search Term to see all matches in the database.
- * Exact (Default) gives an exact search for your search phrase as entered.
- * All allows a match on all of the search terms you enter
- * Any allows a match on any of the search terms entered.
- * The above methods apply to the "search term" search only.
Searching by Settlement is possible i.e. by Town or Royalty, select Charlottetown Royalty, etc. or by Lot, select Lot 01, etc. using the pull down selection list, or if a town not listed separately, simply type in the town name in the "Search Term" box. The engine will pull up all entries with that term in the listing. Major towns (Charlottetown, Summerside, etc.) are not listed in this directory, only Rural areas.
When Searching by Surname, if your search does not bring the results you expected, try searching for spelling variations of that surname, or by lot. The Atlas does not necessarily use today's surname spellings.
A number of lots are listed jointly in this directory. Under the lot pull down list, they are listed as listed in the directory.
This is an index only - refer to the Atlas itself for maps and complete listings. The Cummin's Atlas until recently was available from the PEIMHF - alas, it is now sold out. Copies can at times be found used, and at many libraries. Check the used book search engines - if you can find one at a reasonable price, do not pass up the opportunity to purchase it. One can hope that in the future there will be another reprint as the Atlas was an excellent resource covering an awkward time period following the last released census, and provided excellent maps.
